Balenciaga: A Study in Black – Now Open in Paris
The Palais Galliera, fresh from the news that it will be supported by Chanel, offers visitors an insight into Spanish fashion by hosting a Spanish season, kicking off with a special homage to Cristobal Balenciaga, ‘couturier of the couturiers’ at the Musee Bourdelle art museum. The exhibition, running until July 16, explores the black tones used by the haute couture designer, with sections called Silhouette & Volumes, Blacks & Light and Blacks & Colours. For Balenciaga, black was more than a colour, or a lack of colour, it was a vibrant statement, something that absorbs as much attention as it does light. Stunning gowns, dramatic accessories, and charcoal sketches are just a few of the items on display.
