World’s Most Expensive Handbag Sells at Christie’s Hong Kong
By#legendJune 2, 2017
Not one, but two of the most expensive bags in the world went up for auction at Christies Hong Kong this week. The handbags, closer to art than accessories, are highly regarded within the fashion world, and the sale made international headlines as buyers across Asia raced to add the unique bags to their collections.
The new world record for any handbag sold at auction was reached on the 30th of May. A whopping HK$2,940,000 / US$379,261 was spent on an exceptional matte white himalaya niloticus crocodile diamond Birkin, with white gold and diamond hardware.
International Director of Handbags & Accessories in Asia & EMERI, Matthew Rubinger described the auction as being “one of the most tightly curated sales so far.”
