Fendi Gifts Rome Work of Art
By#legendMay 24, 2017
After a year of making, Fendi unveils their gift to Rome: a sculpture named “Foglie di Pietra”, WWD reports. The work, created by artist Giuseppe Penone, is placed directly outside Fendi’s flagship store in Rome. The artwork consists of two bronze trees, with a large block of white marble suspended in between the branches. Despite it’s airy appearance, the work weighs in at 11 tons.
Renown Italian art curator Massimiliano Gioni described Penone as “The most important living sculptor today in Italy…He is transgressive but rooted, to employ a botanical pun and connected to the local context and history. He reflects on Rome, its history and the weight of time.”
